When the Christmas lights come down and the electric lights return into their boxes, people often wonder how to get rid of their tree. And St John the Baptist Parish wants to help residents get rid of their Christmas trees when it gets down.

Here’s how it works.

Starting Jan. 9, the Department of Public Works will collect live Christmas trees every Thursday through Feb.13, 2025. Residents are expected to place the tree curbside and call Public Works at 985-52-4815 to request pickup.

They have also asked residents of the parish to rid their tree of all the things that make it a Christmas tree, like lights, ornaments, hooks, wire, tensils, nails, and other items from the tree before placing it on the curb.
