History was made Saturday in the 40th Judicial District Court of Louisiana, which encompasses St. John the Baptist Parish, as Felicia Feist was sworn in as the new Clerk of Court.

Feist is the first African American elected to the position. She was sworn in by the Honorable Madeline Jasmine — the first African American judge elected in the parish.

Feist was welcomed to elected office by other officials including the outgoing clerk of court Eliana DeFranchesh; St. John Parish President, Jaclyn Hotard; 40th Judicial District Attorney Bridget Dinvaut; State Representative Ken Brass; St. James Parish Clerk of Court, Shane LeBlanc; St. John Parish Councilwomen  Tammy Houston and Virgie Johnson; Registrar of Voters Russel Jack; St. John Parish School Board member Shawn Wallace; 40th Judicial District Court Judges Sterling Snowdy, Nghana Lewis and Vercel Fiffie; and,  St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre.

The St. John Parish Clerk of Court’s office is located in the courthouse in Edgard, Louisiana and is open to the public.
