As the countdown to Mardi Gras continues, St. John the Baptist Parish gears up for its annual festivities with the Towahpahsah Parade slated to kick off at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, followed by the Krewe of Dage’ Parade at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Both parades will traverse their traditional routes through Reserve and LaPlace, upholding cherished community traditions.
Officials from St. John Parish, alongside the Sheriff’s Office, have convened with representatives from each parade, as well as emergency responders and assisting agencies, to ensure seamless coordination. To enhance the parade experience, public bathrooms will be strategically placed along parish servitudes lining the parade routes. Road closures are anticipated approximately 15 minutes prior to parade commencement.
The St. John Parish Emergency Operations Center remains vigilant, monitoring weather forecasts, particularly for Sunday’s festivities. In the event of inclement weather, updated information will be promptly disseminated. Residents are encouraged to stay abreast of weather updates and exercise caution while enjoying the parade spectacles. Emergency responders have devised a comprehensive plan to address any contingencies that may arise during parade hours.
In observance of the Mardi Gras holiday, St. John the Baptist Parish Government offices will be closed on Monday, February 12, 2024, and Tuesday, February 13, 2024, allowing residents and officials alike to revel in the festivities and embrace the spirit of the season.
