LAPLACE – There was not an active shooter in the LaPlace Walmart this afternoon, St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre confirmed Friday evening.

Heavy police presence surrounded Walmart at approximately 3:30 pm Friday afternoon. Police reported the scene was secure just after 4 p.m. but advised that law enforcement  presence would still be visible.

“Deputies are on scene and the situation is under control,” Tregre said.

According to Tregre, the situation originated in the neighborhood.

Officers have all parties in custody. Weapons were recovered.

More details will be released as the investigation continues.
