Gonzales Man Found Guilty in Connection With 2021 Road Rage Shooting

On August 16, 2023, an Ascension Parish Jury found 24-year-old Johnny Vickers of 40086 Pelican Point Parkway Gonzales, LA guilty as charged of Assault by Drive by Shooting, Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities, and Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. Vickers was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.
On June 6, 2021, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Hwy 22 Darrow in reference to a shooting stemming from a road rage incident. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the victim was fired upon by an individual inside of a second vehicle after turning into a residential driveway. Detectives collected evidence indicating that two projectiles struck the victim’s vehicle. Deputies were able to quickly identify the suspect vehicle and learned that it was a rental vehicle which had been rented by Johnny Vickers. On June 30, 2021, Johnny Vickers was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in connection with an unrelated incident. During an interview, Vickers confessed to shooting into the victim’s vehicle. Vickers was subsequently booked on the above-mentioned charges.
Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Sentencing is tentatively set for November 13, 2023. Vickers remains incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail awaiting sentencing.
