LAPLACE—Damon K. Davis, a LaPlace barber for 25 years, announced his candidacy for District 1 on the St. John the Baptist Parish Council. Currently, the position is held by Kurt Becnel, who has reached the term limit.
The boundary lines of the district were recently redrawn following the release of the Census. It now includes Montegut Subdivision, Historic Woodland Quarters, McReine Rd, Montz, Crevasse, a portion of Milesville, Edgard, Wallace, and Lucy, as well as Pleasure Bend.
Davis, a LaPlace native, has been part of the small business community for over 25 years and is a former member of the Rotary Club of LaPlace. He has been active participant of the state and local Democratic Party since 2011 and has served on the St. John Parish Parks and Recreation board for 11 years.
Davis’ platform includes a strong focus on community service issues such as infrastructure, recreation, better parish drainage and continuation of pushing for hurricane levee protection. Davis said, “I was born here, raised here, live here and love here. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the Parish and continue to move District 1 forward.”
Election Day is October 14.
