LAPLACE– Dixie Ramirez, a resident of LaPlace for the past 44 years, announces her candidacy to run for the seat of Council District 7.
Married to the late Juan A. Ramirez for 43 years, she owned and operated Southwestern Title Company in LaPlace for almost 30 years.
She was appointed by the late Arnold Labat, parish president, to sit on the Jobs Training Program for St. Charles, St. James and St. John the Baptist Committee for eight years. She served as its chairperson for approximately four years and attended meetings twice a year in Washington, DC as well being asked to be a moderator on one of the National Committees.
She, together with the late Lloyd B. Johnson, sheriff, started the Helping Hand project whereby residents of LaPlace could register with the Sheriff’s Office and receive a red helping hand sticker to place on the back windshield of their vehicle to let people know that if they were having trouble on the Spillway Bridge. It was safe to accept help from that driver. She was also a driving force in getting the call boxes on the Spillway Bridge (before cell phones) and started the movement for the two turn around outlets on the bridge (which were built too small and never have been able to be used).
Dixie has served on numerous civic committees with pride and is very committed to helping out our Parish in any way when asked. Being truly knowledgeable, she believes she can make a difference in District 7 if elected. For additional information, she can be reached at 504-232-0782.
