NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued eight boaters Friday on Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana.
Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report from New Orleans 911 dispatch of a 35-foot sailing vessel adrift with three persons aboard and four persons in the water at approximately 8:46 p.m.
Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and coordinated the launches of a Coast Guard Station New Orleans 29-foot Response Boat-Small (RB-S) boat crew and an Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to assist.
The RB-S boat crew arrived on scene with the sailboat and embarked the three persons from the sailboat onto the RB-S. The Coast Guard also received a report that a good Samaritan vessel had rescued all persons in the water, totaling five.
The RB-S boat crew then placed the sailing vessel into a side tow and brought it to the West End boat launch and transferred the boaters to awaiting emergency medical personnel.
No injuries were reported.
