LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Economic Development Department is hosting a disaster preparedness event with the small business administration from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 25 at REGALA Gym, 200 REGALA Park Rd. in Reserve.

Hurricane season is here, and the Small Business Administration is available to provide information on what to do to help individuals become better prepared for emergencies that will enable better recovery and how to get financial assistance after a disaster.

Speakers include the following:

• Susheel Kumar – Public information officer, SBA
• JoAnn Lawrence – Deputy district director, SBA
• Patrick Bell – Assistant commissioner, Louisiana Department of Insurance Division of Diversity and Opportunity
• Darren Derbonne – Insurance specialist, Louisiana Department of Insurance Office of Community Advocacy
