LAPLACE—L’OBSERVATEUR has teamed up with River Parishes Tourist Commission and the River Region Chamber of Commerce to host Best in the River Parishes 2023, an online contest that brings attention to various things in St. John, St. James and St. Charles parishes. This includes  places to shop, eat and provide services as well as recognizing local people, charity groups and events.

Small businesses are the backbone to every local economy and ours are not only unique but each one plays a part in keeping dollars in the River Parishes, which benefits its residents. Some of these benefits include providing jobs close to home and improving the tax base that provides education for our children, first responders, police and fire personnel, parks and other things provided by our local governments.

Additionally, patronizing these establishments and showing them our support encourages them and others to bring additional goods and services that continue to benefit the community.

Best of the River Parishes is currently in the nomination phase when people give suggestions as to who they think is the best in a particular category, such as best hamburger and best seafood.

The top 3 nominations in each category goes on to the voting round.

To participate go to lobservateur.com/contests then click on the box that says Best of the River Parishes 2023.

Another option is to scan the QR code.

There are six main groups with various categories. When voting for the first time, the program will ask for an email address. Type in your response and Google will offer business suggestions to help with spelling.

Nominating is allowed once per day, per category until June 30.

If you don’t have a computer, written nominations will be accepted and may be sent to 116 Newspaper Dr, LaPlace, LA 70068. Nominations must be post marked by June 30 to be counted.

Voting will begin on August 1 and will continue until August 31. The top 3 nominations in each category will be visible.

We are always striving to make things better. If you have a suggestion on a category, please let us know. Keep in mind there have to be at least 3 available options for voting and suggestions such as Best Himalayan Bistro are not feasible, but Best Exotic Restaurant could be.
