Congratulations to Melynie Wright and Anita Hefler for five years of saving lives in St. John and the River Parishes. Both ladies have been partners in Louisiana Splash and Water Safety which offers swimming lessons to hundreds of children and adults.

This year they’re at the pool at the Victorious Life Family Worship Center, the former Shannon’s health club near the Belle Pointe neighborhood. In the past they’ve offered lessons at both the Riverlands Country Club and the Belle Terre Country Club.

I’ll take a moment to add this – I’ve said for years that swimming classes should be a part of the regular Phys Ed curriculum in our public schools. Too many children die of avoidable water accidents.

As Melynie said in L’Observateur’s recent article, “Water safety is a much-needed skill that everyone should have.”
