The Kiwanis Club of Tri-Parishes hosted its second 2023 Read-a-thon Awards last week at Ethel Schoeffner Elementary in Destrehan, drawing participation from 70 young readers. The program was also offered to fourth graders at Lake Pontchartrain Elementary in LaPlace, with prizes including but not limited to new bicycles and gift certificates to the Airborne Extreme trampoline park. Students were encouraged to fall in love with reading by choosing their own books and reading at their own pace over a two-month period, and those who read at least five books were eligible for individual awards.
