Burt was born on July 8, 1950, in Reserve, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Ory, Sr. and Claudia Ory and is survived by his wife, Carolyn Pitcock Ory.
He is survived by his two daughters, Julie Ory of Baton Rouge and Melissa Ory Suarez and her husband Alex Suarez of Allen, TX. Burt was blessed with five grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Ronald Ory and his wife Linda of Brandon, FL; Raymond Ory and his wife Susan of Katy, TX; Rodney Ory and his wife Lynn of LaPlace; Kathy Ory Snage and her husband Alex of High Point, NC.
Burt always had a love of law enforcement. He graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a master’s degree in criminology and began his career with an internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Burt joined the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office in 1972, where he remained until his retirement in 2004. While at the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, he quickly worked his way up the ranks, being promoted to lieutenant, captain and major. He served his community for 32 years.
He was also in the Marine Reserves from 1972 -1980, dedicating himself to his country for eight years before he was honorably discharged.
Burt was an avid fisherman and loved to rebuild antique and classic cars. There was always a car in his garage that he was working on. He also loved cooking and was frequently asked to prepare his great pots of jambalaya for local community functions. He loved to share his cooking and if you ever visited him, you always left with something special from his freezer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 W. Airline Hwy, LaPlace, LA 70068 on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
