LAPLACE — Preparations for LEAP testing at East St. John Preparatory Academy included an uplifting message from motivational speaker Dr. Tommie Mabry.

During a Monday morning school assembly themed “To Predict Your Future, You Must Create It,” Dr. Mabry gave students valuable tools on how to face adversity and focus on solutions rather than problems. Students learned to recognize the power in their determination, especially as it relates to critical thinking, resolving conflicts and managing emotions.

Dr. Mabry has led character-building workshops across the country, aiming to change the culture within students by promoting literacy and encouraging positive behaviors. His book, “A Dark Journey to a Light Future” expands on his commitment to help students face the inevitable challenges of life.
