Bayou Gauche family arrested in connection to stolen bus

Sheriff Champagne announces arrests in an incident involving a bus taken from Destrehan and returned after causing damage to a gate and the bus.
Kim Patrick Smith, Jr., a 33-year-old Bayou Gauche resident, was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Entry of a Place of Business, and Simple Criminal Damage to Property.
Brenda A. Smith, a 54-year-old Bayou Gauche resident, was arrested for 3 counts of Accessories After the Fact.
Kim P. Smith, Sr., a 68-year-old Bayou Gauche resident, was arrested for 3 counts of Accessories After the Fact.
Deputies with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of property damage on Road Runner Lane in Destrehan on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at approximately 6:42 am.
When deputies arrived, the complainant advised that someone had entered the fenced-in bus parking area and taken a bus. The bus drove through the gate causing damage to the bus and gate. The bus was then driven to the Bayou Gauche area before being driven back to the bus parking area and left.
There was no other damage reported from this incident.
After a thorough investigation, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Joshua DeRoche applied for and was granted a warrant for the arrest of Kim Patrick Smith, Jr. for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Entry of a Place of Business, and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. Detective DeRoche also applied for and was granted warrants for the arrests of Brenda A. Smith and Kim P. Smith, Sr. for three counts each of Accessories After the Fact.
Kim Smith, Jr., Brenda Smith, and Kim Smith, Sr. were arrested and booked at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
