ST. JAMES PARISH- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update for the LA 20 Bayou Chevreuil Bridge Replacement project in St. James Parish.
Construction on this project was suspended due to the contractor defaulting on the contract. Negotiations with a bond company are underway to select a new contractor to finish the remaining work on the permanent bridge. Once this is completed, an updated timeline for the completion of the project will be given.
The bridge replacement was needed in order to move forward with a safety improvement project to widen LA 20 approximately three miles in St. James and Lafourche parishes. This project is anticipated to go to bid this summer. Both contractors will coordinate their construction efforts around both projects. Once the widening project begins, it is estimated to be completed in three years, weather permitting.
This $11.6 million project will replace the current bridge over Bayou Chevreuil with a new wider and longer structure that will be built along the same horizontal alignment as the current one.
DOTD appreciates the public’s patience and reminds motorists to please drive with caution through construction sites, and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
