LAPLACE—Students of all grade levels at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School in LaPlace are celebrating this spring as they reap the benefits of hard work and excellent instruction.
SJA’s seventh-grade class recently received their high school acceptance packages, and this year members of the class will be headed to all corners of the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ reach and beyond.
Starting in the fall students will be attending St. Charles Catholic, Dominican, Archbishop Chapelle, Mount Carmel, and Northlake Christian School. The Vikings performed very well on challenging placement tests, routinely hitting eighth and ninth grade benchmarks across all subject areas.
The SJA Class of 2023 has collected five academic scholarships – four from SCC and one from Chapelle.
SJA students Roman Spencer and Lily Brady tied for second place at SCC, while Vikings Max Blouin and Jonathan Clement tied for fifth place at SCC. This means that four out of SCC’s top five incoming eighth graders will be products of SJA.
SJA seventh-grader Margaux Mouton received an academic scholarship to Chapelle.
Over the past two years SJA graduates have earned a total of 11 academic scholarships. These have been awarded for top placement test results, as well as for excellence in the classroom. Schools awarding these prizes to Vikings have included SCC, Chapelle, and Mount Carmel.
“SJA graduates continue to be amongst the leaders of the pack wherever they apply to high school,” SJA teacher Ryan Flynn said. “We applaud them and all of the teachers they had along the way that helped get them to these milestones.”
Flynn noted that SJA academic success starts early. The school’s kindergarten through second graders recently took their second NWEA Map assessments.
“We had some great scores in achievement and in growth,” SJA Principal Jenny Poulos said. “In looking at the scores of our kindergarten through second grade students compared to the students of the same grade levels across the nation, our students scored above the national achievement norms in both reading and math at all three grade levels. We are so impressed with all of them and their teachers for the work they are doing to prepare these young students.”
Enrollment for SJA’s 2023-2024 school year is underway, and several grade levels already have waiting lists. For more information about SJA, visit sja-school.com.
