LAPLACE — Parish President Jaclyn Hotard kicked off Mardi Gras in St. John Parish on January 6 with a toast to local Mardi Gras Krewes. President Hotard welcomed representatives from the Krewe of Agape, Krewe of Allovus, Krewe of Dage’ and Krewe of Towahpahsah during the toast and thanked them for their cultural contributions to the community.
“Today – King’s Day – is the official beginning of Carnival and so it was only fitting to toast to all of our wonderful Krewes and St. John Royalty as we celebrate the start of the Mardi Gras season in St. John,” said Parish President Hotard.
As tradition holds, the annual parades in St. John Parish will roll the weekend before Mardi Gras.
The Krewe of Towahpahsah Parade will begin at noon, Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Reserve, and the Krewe of Dage’ Parade will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 19, 2023, in LaPlace.
