LAPLACE — Rinalda Rocquin is the new area nutrition agent in St. Charles and St. John the Baptist parishes for the LSU AgCenter. Mrs. Rocquin began working with the LSU AgCenter on September 1, 2022. She is the new Flavors of Health Agent teaching nutrition and chronic disease prevention classes as well as working with the Healthy Communities programs in the area.
Flavors of Health is a nutrition and health program with a community focus that provides classes and workshops on a variety of topics that empower individuals and families to make healthy food and fitness choices and to live healthful lives.
Mrs. Rocquin is originally from Alabama and moved to Louisiana to teach at Southeastern Louisiana University, where she taught child development classes and was the director of the Child Development Center on campus. Her undergraduate and graduate degrees are in Home Economics, and she has a great love for individuals and families and helping them to create a healthy lifestyle.
After completing a ministry degree, Mrs. Rocquin spent eight years overseas helping establish three churches and feeding centers. She spent many hours developing recipes and teaching families how to use the limited resources that were available to them. The Rocquins returned to United States in 2000 and have resided in St. James Parish since that time.
Mrs. Rocquin home schooled her two daughters, who became very active in the St. James 4-H program. She was an adult leader and helped oversee their 4-H Community Club, as well as volunteered at the many 4-H parish activities and the local Fast-Food Farm, an educational program that teaches students where their food comes from. She led a delegation to the National Healthy Living Conference in 2017 in Washington D.C.
The LSU AgCenter is excited to welcome Mrs. Rocquin as an Area Nutrition Agent. For more information, please contact Mrs. Rocquin at rrocquin@agcenter.lsu.edu.
