Baton Rouge – On September 16, 2022, shortly after 9:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 3246 at Cloverland Ave. The crash ultimately claimed the life of the pedestrian identified as 24-year-old-year Danisha Jackson of Baton Rouge.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian was walking south on LA 3246 along the grassy shoulder. At the same time, Justin Alexander of Baton Rouge was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry south on LA 3246 in the right lane of travel. For reasons still under investigation, Alexander struck the curb, exited the roadway to the right, and struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Toyota was properly restrained and was uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from the pedestrian and the driver of the Toyota for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Pedestrian and motorists alike are urged to remain vigilant while on roadways and pay close attention to their surroundings. Crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following some basic safety guidelines. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas. Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night. Crossing roadways only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will enhance the safety for pedestrians.
