Garyville Man Cited For Commercial Fishing Violations in Plaquemines Parish

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Garyville man for alleged commercial fishing violations in Plaquemines Parish on Aug 28.

Agents cited Daniel J. Wilkerson, 27, for taking or possessing undersized catfish.

Agents were responding to an anonymous complaint and came into contact with Wilkerson in the Mississippi River near Buras.  He was in possession of blue catfish he harvested with hoop nets.

After examining all the catfish, Wilkerson was in possession of numerous undersized blue catfish totaling 30 percent of his total catch on board his vessel.

Agents seized a total of 1,350 pounds of catfish.

Taking or possessing undersized catfish carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Wilkerson may also face civil restitution totaling $93 for the replacement value of the undersized fish.
