Evelyn Lillian “Evelyn Ella” Serna Vicknair, was born on February 25, 1950, in Miami, Arizona, and died on June 15, 2022, in Hammond, Louisiana.
Evelyn moved with her family to Pomona, California when she was in junior high. She was a hard-working dedicated student at Huntington Park High School, in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where she served as Senior Class Vice-President, and was active in many extracurricular activities, graduating with honors in 1968.
She briefly attended UCLA and worked at Sears Roebuck in L.A. before starting a 45-year career as an insurance underwriter, working for The Hartford over 20 of those years.
With her joyful and fun-loving personality that could light up a room, Evelyn easily adapted Louisiana’s “Laissez les bons temps rouler” lifestyle when she moved to St. John the Baptist Parish after meeting the love of her life, Mark Vicknair, whom she married in 1984. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and other relatives. She will always be remembered for her great love of family, God and country, as well as her passion for music and dancing.
Evelyn is survived by her beloved husband of over 37 years, Mark Vicknair, son, JR Williams, daughter, Sabrina Williams, grandsons Dakota Williams and Jeremiah Cortez, Jr., granddaughter, Alexia Evelina Williams, siblings Dolores Rodriguez (Joe), Diana Murphy (Kevin), Anabella “Bella” Nylander (the late Doug), Delfino Serna, Jr., and Paul Serna, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Delfino Serna, Sr. and Blandina Misselwitz Serna, her nephew, Joey Rodriguez, Jr., and great-nephew Joey Rodriguez III.
