Senate Bill 323, authored by Senator Heather Cloud, R-28, was signed into law by Governor John Bel Edwards June 18th, becoming Act 693.
Act 693 will create a tiered system of low risk, moderate and high-risk juveniles within the Office of Juvenile Justice in an effort to secure facilities.
Sen. Cloud said, “This act will reform The Office of Juvenile Justice by moving the system of care from the LAMOD therapeutic model to a tired approach for how the juvenile inmates are cared for. I am thankful for the bipartisan support I received for this bill during the 2022 Regular Session, and that Gov. Edwards saw the benefits of this bill as well. I look forward to continuing working with the OJJ and seeing how this bill strengthens the system.”
