LAPLACE — Repairs are underway at numerous St. John the Baptist Parish facilities damaged during Hurricane Ida, Parish President Jaclyn Hotard announced during the most recent Parish Council meeting in LaPlace.
“Every building received some type of damage,” Hotard said during her President’s Report. “What we did was create a priority list based on things that could be handled pretty quickly, in buildings that are used by the public.”
She added that the St. John Community Center located on Highway U.S. 51 had substantial damage and will take the longest to repair.
Roof repairs have been completed at the parish recreation structures, including gazebos at REGALA Park and Emily C. Watkins, restroom buildings at REGALA and Belle Pointe Park, and the Castle Drive pool house.
The old Council on Aging building located behind the Edgard Courthouse is currently undergoing construction. Meanwhile, repairs for the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office and the historic St. John Theatre are out for bid, and repairs to the fire stations are currently in the design phase. The design phase of the Arcuri Center/ Courthouse Annex should be complete within the next couple of weeks.
