Comets prepare for baseball quarterfinals

LAPLACE — This week, St. Charles Catholic will host Newman in a best-of-three series in the quarterfinal round of the Division III baseball playoffs.
The Comets are ranked No. 2 in Division III and have a 24-9 season record. Newman is ranked No. 7. Game times are as follows:
- Thursday, May 5 – 4:30 p.m.
- Saturday, May 7 – Noon
- (If necessary) Saturday, May 7 – 3:30 p.m.
The gate entry is $10 for the Thursday game, $12 on Saturday, or $20 for the series package.
Two wins in the best-of-three quarterfinal round will send St. Charles Catholic to the semifinals to face either Notre Dame or Ascension Episcopal.
St. Charles Catholic had a nearly two-week break after ending the regular season the week of April 17-23.
The Comets claimed a 10-1 victory against Covenant Christian on April 18. Brady St. Pierre earned the win on the mound, while Jackson Monica and Ryan Laiche each contributed three hits.
Senior night on April 19 featured a 15-0 shutout win against Morris Jeff Community. Two days later, the Comets defeated Jesuit 3-2.
St. Charles Catholic closed the regular season on April 23 with a 13-0 shutout against Thibodaux during which the Comets slugged 12 hits for the win.
