Grambling president visits St. John Parish Schools

RESERVE — Grambling State University President Rick Gallot was in St. John the Baptist Parish on Thursday, March 31, 2022, where Grambling alumna Dr. Lynett Hookfin is the Superintendent of Schools and alumnus Keith Jones sits on the School Board.
The event was started by the late Grambling State alumna Bernetta Ambres and connected Grambling with high school juniors and seniors at East St. John and West St. John high schools.
President Gallot, Financial Aid Director Dr. Alan Jackson, GSU Admissions Representative Timothy Stewart and the Student Ambassadors spoke to the student body at West St. John High School in Edgard about the benefits of joining the “GramFam.”
After departing West St. John, the team presented to the seniors at East St. John High School where they were joined by Dr. Hookfin, Keith Jones, Grambling Legends class of 2022 inductee Juan Watkins and other alumni. During the East St. John visit, President Gallot and Vice President for Advancement, Research and Economic Development Melanie Jones were presented a $10,000 donation from chapter president Dani Moses and the newly formed River Parishes chapter of the Grambling University National Alumni Association. The chapter also presented a plaque to Kevin Ambres in honor of his late wife Bernetta.
St. John Parish President Jaclyn Hotard presented President Gallot with a gift on behalf of the parish.
