Venice – On March 22, 2022, shortly after 11:00 pm, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 23 near Marathon Lane. Troopers are withholding the name of the deceased pending proper notification to next of kin.
The initial investigation revealed that a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north on LA 23 in the right lane. At the same time, 37-year-old Reeva Parker of Buras was driving a Nissan Altima north on LA 23 behind the Chevrolet. Troopers determined the Nissan was driving without headlamps illuminated. For reasons still under investigation, the front of the Nissan crashed into the rear of the Chevrolet.
Parker was unrestrained, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Restraint use is unknown for the driver of the Chevrolet. Blood samples were collected from both drivers and will be submitted for scientific analysis. Any criminal or traffic violations discovered in the ongoing investigation will be forwarded to the Plaquemines Parish District Attorney’s Office.
Troopers would like to remind motorists of the importance of safe decisions behind the wheel. Impairment continues to be a leading cause of fatal crashes. Have a plan and designate a driver before you decide to drink. While not all crashes are survivable, wearing a seatbelt greatly reduces the chances of being killed or seriously injured in a crash. Having a plan and making safe decisions could be the difference for tomorrow.
