WALLACE – In observation and honor of Black History Month, REV Broadband – the parent company of RTC, EATEL, EATEL Business, Vision Communications and VENYU – is premiering “Middle Passage to Wallace: the Whitney Plantation Museum Experience” on its local origination channels across its three markets.
Shot on location at the Whitney Plantation Museum in the St. John the Baptist Parish town of Wallace, the documentary is the local telecommunications company’s commitment to preserving the histories, stories and cultures of local communities within their service area.
“We’re extremely thankful to the staff of the Whitney Plantation Museum for allowing us to share their mission to educate the public and our viewers about the history of slavery – not only its relation to our state, but to our country as a whole,” said Josh Descant, CEO of REV Broadband. “We’re humbled and grateful to be able to lend an amplified voice to elevate this great organization’s work. It’s our hope that viewers learn something about the institution of slavery and visit the museum for themselves.”
“We always appreciate ways to share our mission to educate our visitors and the public at large about slavery,” said Joy Banner, Ph.D., communications director, Whitney Plantation. “We appreciate REV’s and RTC’s work to educate the public about slavery and its impact.”
“It was both an honor and personal privilege to produce this documentary and tell the very real story of the Whitney Plantation,” said Megan Archer, production manager for REVtv. “It’s vital knowing the real story of slavery – and while its seldom a comfortable narrative to hear or tell, it’s a piece of history that’s been glossed over for a very long time. Experiencing this place is truly humbling and memorable and we hope we effectively honored this profound organization’s purpose.”
