BATON ROUGE — The Krewe of Agape Carnival Organization will hold its 18th Biennial Carnival Bal Masque this Sunday at L’Auberge Casino and Hotel in Baton Rouge. This year’s theme is “Agape Salutes Historical Black Sororities and Fraternities.”
Queen Agape XVIII is Ms. Nydia Maude Marie Cooper of St. James.
Nydia is the daughter of Machiavellia and Nadine Nelson Cooper of St. James. Nydia is a junior at Loyola University in New Orleans. She is studying marketing and management on scholarship. Nydia also has a third-degree level two black belt and is a junior instructor. Nydia is no stranger to Krewe of Agape; she has been a page, a princess, a lady in waiting and a maid. Now she will reign as Queen Agape.
King Agape XVIII is Mr. Jamil Hakim Sharif.
Jamil is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jamil Sharif, Sr. of New Orleans. He has one sister, Jovita. He is a student at Loyola University of New Orleans studying music and computer programming. He is currently employed at Home Depot while he completes his studies. If Jamil had the opportunity to make a difference, he would make opportunities involving music more widely available from collaborating, composing, teaching and performing.
Captain Agape XVIII is Mr. Raydell Mason of LaPlace.
Raydell is married to the former TaQuana Zeno of LaPlace. They have two sons. He and his wife have several local medical businesses.
