LAPLACE — Officers with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office had the pleasure of delivering Thanksgiving lunches to members of the SJSO’s Protect Our Precious Seniors, POPS, program. Due to COVID-19 as well as Hurricane Ida displacing many senior citizens in our community, unfortunately, we were unable to present our traditional Thanksgiving senior citizens luncheon, which serves about 400 elderly in the parish. Instead of cancelling the entire event, Sheriff Tregre decided to offer a Thanksgiving meal delivery for our homebound seniors.
The POPS members were appreciative of the lunch of barbecued chicken, rice dressing, green beans and bread pudding prepared by some of the chefs with the SJSO — Larry Williams, Lennie Valentine, Marshall Carmouche, C.J. Remondet and Denise Lowery. POPS members also received a gift of a SJSO lantern.
The SJSO is grateful to Marathon for its contribution to this project, which was coordinated by Officer Ingrid Perrilloux.
