After a truly unique school year, St. Charles Catholic is excited to continue our tradition of academic excellence in our traditional setting – the beautiful and red-brick campus of SCC, home of the Comets.  Looking forward to more time together and more to celebrate in the coming year, the faculty, staff, and students are proud to celebrate an appropriate school theme: Stronger Together. The school year will begin with grade-level retreats on August 12, giving students the opportunity to connect, pray, and grow together on the first day of school.

At the end of every school year our new Retreat Team selects a few options for the next school year’s theme. The entire student body then has the opportunity to vote on those selections and the winner is the theme we center our entire school year around. This year’s theme was drawn from 2 Timothy 4:17. In St. Paul’s letter to Timothy, he says, “but the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.”

In his letter, St. Paul is corresponding with his friend about the trials of his imprisonment and encourages Timothy to not lose focus of their mission. After his conversion, St. Paul was sent to preach the Gospel and convert all peoples to Christ. St. Paul took particular care to preach to Gentiles. His unwavering commitment to the Gospel, attention to the forgotten, and tenacious spirit to preach to those on the periphery are just a few reasons we have chosen this passage from the New Testament to guide our year.

Just as Jesus needed Simon of Cyrene to help Him carry His cross and St. Paul needed his companions to help him make it through his missionary trials, we recognize that we all need to accept a helping hand once in a while. And in turn, be that helping hand to others! That is why, for the 2021-2022 schools year, we will be Stronger Together as we learn together, serve together, and grow into the people God created us to be—together.

As the educational and spiritual leader of the River Parishes, SCC maintains a well-balanced curriculum in an effort to meet the needs of all students, especially now as many students experience the adjustment back into full classroom learning. We strive to develop the total student – spiritually, academically, physically and socially. A diverse student body currently attends St. Charles Catholic for its religious instruction, academics, athletics and community involvement.  Students come not only to nourish their minds but also to deepen their faith in preparation for becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

Faculty and students are continuing with our 1:1 program with Apple iPads for students in the 8th – 10th grades and Mac laptops for our juniors and seniors. SCC students utilized the many applications that Apple and Google offers in order to continue learning from a distance during the past school year, allowing for no learning to be lost last year.  We look forward to making significant learning gains in the months ahead.

Teachers are incorporating interactive panels and iPads into their daily instruction in the classroom to further the various benefits of using technology in their lesson, allowing for robust research, sophisticated project designs, interactive group assignments, and more. Our two computer labs provide space for our Digital Design, Multimedia, Robotics, and Code Design classes as well as our Dual Enrollment courses in English, Mathematics, French, Spanish, and Science.

Daily Religion classes and prayer in all class sessions encourage the spiritual development of students at SCC. Masses and liturgical services are held often, with schoolwide celebrations occurring once a month. St. Charles Catholic begins the school year with both faculty and grade-level retreats, and every Thursday during lunch, students are invited to special prayer services and reflections in our campus chapel.

The academic development of the student is accomplished through three programs of study – an Honors program (including Advanced Placement courses in Literature and Language Arts, Civics, American History, & Language and Composition); an academic program; and a standard program. Students are assigned to a program based on their individual academic abilities and on the results of the standard high school placement test. We also offer electives in Fine Arts, Law Studies, Business, Petrochemical Studies, and more.

During the 2020-2021 school year, more than 80 percent of our graduates earned college scholarships, totaling in over 7.5 million dollars of scholarship money.  Also during the past year, six Comets entered the prestigious 30+ Club by earning a score of 30 or higher on the ACT standardized test, of which the highest score is a 36.

The physical development of the student is maintained by a required two years of physical education. All students are encouraged to participate in the many interscholastic athletic programs offered at SCC, including baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

Last year, approximately 90 percent of the student body was involved in one or more extracurricular activities, which promotes a community feel on campus as well as a well-rounded educational experience.  In addition to sports programs, SCC offers a variety of academic clubs, service organizations and spirit groups, which meet the interests of the students as well as supplement classroom learning.

St. Charles Catholic is accredited by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, approved by the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Schools and affiliated with the National Catholic Educational Association.
