While the SJSO has not recently recorded an uptick in calls of nuisance alligators in neighborhoods, officers remind residents to use caution if they observe an alligator wandering streets. This gator was spotted at the Reserve boat launch.
If an alligator ends up on your property, back away slowly. If you hear an alligator hiss, it’s a warning that you are too close. Since nuisance alligators can threaten pets, please keep your pet on a leash.
To report nuisance alligators, call the SJSO at 985-652-6338 or the La. Department of Wildlife and Fisheries at 504-284-2023 (weekdays); or 800-442-2511 (nights and weekends)
