St. James Parish begins preparations ahead of expected tropical weather

Convent, LA – Ahead of the anticipated tropical system, Invest 92L, expected to impact the area over the weekend, St. James Parish officials have activated three sandbag locations in the parish and begun storm preparations.

Invest 92L is expected to bring between 4 to 6 inches of rainfall to St. James Parish beginning Friday and remaining through Sunday with wind gusts up to 35 to 45 mph possible.

Residents are advised to bring a shovel to fill bags at the below sandbag locations:

  • Grand Point Fire Station – 32122 Hwy 642, Paulina
  • South Vacherie Fire Training Center – 29126 Health Unit Street, Vacherie
  • Kingview Fire Station – 8120 Kingview Street, St. James

Parish crews are working to inspect waterways and drainage canals, clearing any debris before the arrival of storm bands. In addition, the West Bank Weir is closed and being pumped down as needed by Parish Operations Crews. Trash collection is not expected to be impacted at this time, and the parish landfills will remain operational.
