SJSO to conduct seat belt checks 05/24 to 06/06

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office is participating in the Click It or Ticket campaign May 24 through June 6. Extra patrols will be conducting seat belt checks throughout the parish.
The SJSO joined the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission in promoting this seat belt enforcement mobilization since wearing a seat belt can reduce the risk of a fatal injury by 45 percent.
In 2019, observational surveys by the LHSC showed that 87.5 percent of all Louisiana drivers and passengers were wearing their seat belts. While this record usage rate is good news for Louisiana, there is much work to be done in moving toward 100 percent compliance.
