SCC basketball wins big

LAPLACE — Thursday night was a big night for St. Charles Catholic basketball as both girl’s and boys’ teams took home wins. The SCC Lady Comets defeated Louise McGehee for their first game of the Division III Playoff Bracket. The Lady Comets came in off their winning season with a 10-5 overall record and an undefeated district season of 6-0, which gave them the fourth seed of the bracket.
The Lady Comets made the game seem almost effortless as they started off strong with a 17-8 lead in the first quarter and continued to dominate the game until the end. The Lady Comets ended the first half with a considerable lead 29-11. The third quarter was no different from the first half as the Lady Comets continue to bring the heat, outscoring McGehee 18-10 as they widened the lead 47-21 by the end of the third. The fourth quarter was the icing on the cake and the nail in the coffin for McGehee’s playoff dreams as the Lady Comets solidified their position in the next round by sealing the win 51-27. The Lady Comets advance to the quarterfinal round and will square off against the winner of Catholic – N.I./ Isidore Newman game. Jordain Felix was the lead scorer for McGehee with a total of 16 pts. Major contributions to the Lady Comets’ success tonight came from Kaitlyn Abair with 24 points and Mya Brown with 16 points. Congratulations on an awesome job by the SCC Lady Comets, and good luck in the quarterfinal round.
The boys also brought home a victory with a win over South Plaquemines in the first round of the District Tournament Thursday night.
