Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home resident William Rouchell, pictured at right, had a heartfelt reunion with his family during the last week of September.

Sept. 22 marked the first day Veterans Home residents could have outdoor visitation since the COVID-19 shutdown began in March. For more than six months, families were only able to keep in touch through phone calls and FaceTime.

Rouchell was joined by his wife of 68 years, Yvonne Rouchell, and his son-in-law and daughter, Dave and Sue Ranlett.

“Oh happy day!” Sue Ranlettsaid. “What a great visit with dad today! Thanks to the staff for welcoming us again!”

Brandee Patrick, spokesperson for the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs, said the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home is looking forward to seeing more families in the coming days.
