Monday update: St. John Parish reports 830 COVID-19 cases

LAPLACE — There were 830 of reported COVID-19 cases and 77 deaths in St. John the Baptist Parish on Monday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. This marks an increase of 1 cases and no deaths since Saturday’s report. – Please note L’Observateur did not post an update on Sunday.
St. Charles Parish has 615 reported cases and 42 deaths, while St. James has 284 reported cases and 23 deaths.
Statewide, there are 34,117 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across all 64 parishes. This marks an increase of 592 cases since Saturday’s report.
There were 2,440 deaths statewide as of Monday, which was an increase of 27 since Saturday’s report. The first death in the state was reported on March 14.
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there are 1,031 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. Of these patients, 118 are on ventilators.
The state is now reporting that 26,249 people who have tested positive are presumed to have recovered as of May 16.

-Barber shops, nail salons, hair salons and bars that offer food service, casinos and video poker, museums, zoos and aquariums can operate at a 25 percent of their normal capacity.
St. John curfew has been lifted.
St. John Sheriff, Mike Tregre, announced the overnight curfew put into place April 1 in St. John the Baptist Parish expired as the parish moved to Phase One under the White House COVID-19 guidance. This removes the Stay at Home order for Louisianans and allows additional businesses to open under strict occupancy, protection and social distancing guidelines.
