Thursday update: St. John reporting 820 COVID-19 cases

LAPLACE — There were 820 of reported COVID-19 cases and 78 deaths in St. John the Baptist Parish on Thursday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. This marks an increase of 12 additional cases and an increase of 1 death since Wednesday’s report.
St. Charles Parish has 602 reported cases and 42 deaths, while St. James has 284 reported cases and 22 deaths.
Statewide, there are 33,489 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across all 64 parishes. This marks an increase of 827 cases since yesterday’s report.
There were 2,351 deaths statewide as of Thursday, which was an increase of 36 since Wednesday’s report. The first death in the state was reported on March 14.
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, there are 1,193 COVID-19 patients in hospitals across the state. Of these patients, 140 are on ventilators.
The state is now reporting that 22,608 people who have tested positive are presumed to have recovered as of May 10.

-Barber shops, nail salons, hair salons and bars that offer food service, casinos and video poker, museums, zoos and aquariums can operate at a 25 percent of their normal capacity.
St. John curfew will be lifted Friday.
St. John Sheriff, Mike Tregre, announced the overnight curfew put into place April 1 in St. John the Baptist Parish will expire as the parish moves to Phase One under the White House COVID-19 guidance on Friday, May 15. This removes the Stay at Home order for Louisianans and allows additional businesses to open under strict occupancy, protection and social distancing guidelines.
