Pictures is John Pidgeon who drew a female that helped another by picking up a dropped item for his kindness project. The text reads, “What it means to be kind, is when you do something nice or helpful for someone. For example if someone drops something or if someone needs help, it would be kind to help that person.”

LAPLACE—During National School Counseling Week, Counselor Jennifer Russell challenged students to show big and small acts of kindness.

Students participated in a “Counselor’s Challenge,” taking home a form that listed different acts of kindness such as helping with a chore that’s not yours or complimenting a family member. Parents initialed the form for each act completed. At the end of the week, the forms were placed in a box for a drawing. The winning student was fifth-grader John Pidgeon.

Russell also taught lessons about showing kindness to others. Students played out different scenarios and how they could react to these scenarios with kindness.

The students then had a short writing activity and drawing they were able to create. Their work went into a bulletin board to display for the month of February.
