LUTCHER — Fourth and fifth graders in the Riverside Academy Elementary Beta Club learned the importance of giving as they distributed blankets to the residents of Chateau St. James Rehab and Retirement Home in Lutcher.

Cori Cenac participates in the annual blanket drive.

The annual blanket drive is a school-wide effort that aims to increase Christmas cheer, according to Beta sponsor Molly Duhe. This year, 29 children in the club collected a total of 132 blankets. All blankets were personally delivered to residents of the home on Dec. 12.

Cannon Mistretta gives a blanket to a senior resident at Chateau St. James.

“People in nursing homes don’t always have young children to visit them, and we felt like this was an important thing for young kids to experience with the elderly and vice versa,” Duhe said.

Riverside Academy student Dane Barraco is happy to give back.

While heading back to school, student Dane Barraco exclaimed that he “loves making people happy!”

According to Duhe, the next big Elementary Beta project will involve beautification efforts and gardening around the Riverside Academy campus.
