Comets busy giving thanks

LAPLACE — At St. Charles Catholic High School, the students, faculty, staff and parents have so much to be thankful for each day. SCC recently celebrated its school Thanksgiving Mass. The Religion Department requested that all SCC students collect canned goods.
This year, St. Charles Catholic High School collected more than 1,000 items for their annual Thanksgiving drive. Each religion class donated multiple laundry baskets filled with nonperishable food items and cooking ingredients meant to help those in need celebrate Thanksgiving. Once the items were collected and sorted at SCC, they were then delivered to Ascension of Our Lord Church where they were distributed to those in need throughout St. John the Baptist Parish.

St. Charles Catholic High School and Ascension of Our Lord have enjoyed this partnership for many years and see it as a sign of solidarity to serve the community at large.
When reflecting on the Thanksgiving Drive from this year and from years past, Campus Minister and 8th grade religion teacher Raleigh Poche stated, “All items collected and sorted in the our religion classes go directly back into the community. Our students understand the importance of service, but it’s always rewarding to have them see the impact their service has on the community. It’s important for them to love their community and always want to be of service to it.”

The Fellowship Christian Athletes at St. Charles Catholic High School recently made gift-filled shoeboxes as part of “Operation Christmas Child.” The members filled over 25 shoeboxes with brand new items such as small books, bibles, rosaries, socks, and school supplies. The St. Charles Fellowship of Christian Athletes completed the packing at one of its recent Thursday night meetings as a way to give thanks. Senior Kelly Campbell stated that this annual tradition at SCC “is a wonderful chance for us to share God’s love and joy with boys and girls around the world.”
