GARYVILLE — A family continues to fight for justice one year after their loved one was killed in a Garyville neighborhood. Lorenzo Eugene was shot multiple times and killed on Nov. 18, 2018 in the 100 block of South Fig Street.
Detectives with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office said Eugene’s murder is still an active investigation. Eugene, 34, was the father of a 17-year-old daughter, a 12-year-old son, and a 2-year-old daughter.
On the one year anniversary of Eugene’s death, his family returned to the scene of the crime and asked for justice for their loved one.
Eugene’s mother, Sharon, pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.
“Anybody who has any information on who murdered my son, please call the sheriff’s office. I’m begging you,” she said.
Eugene was gunned down in a hail of bullets that caused much of Garyville to take notice, according to police and reports from neighboring residents. Community members reported hearing anywhere from seven to 13 shots fired.
Eugene was pronounced dead near his residence just before 8 p.m. At the time, Sheriff Mike Tregre told L’OBSERVATEUR that, “someone was waiting for Eugene to come out of his home.”
