RESERVE– Riverside Academy did not let the weather spoil their Homecoming game on Friday. The game went ahead as scheduled despite inclement weather in the area. The Rebels scored early and often in a dominating 55 – 7 victory over the St. Martin’s Saints to open District 9-1A play.

Riverside took possession on a short field after a St. Martin’s failed onside kick attempt to start the game. The Rebels capitalized on their first play from scrimmage with a 50-yard touchdown run by Gage Larvadain. The Rebels took the lead 7-0. Riverside added to their lead when Larvadain connected with Tairyn Lockhart for a 29-yard touchdown pass for the 14 – 0 lead. Larvadain added another touchdown on a 59-yard touchdown run for a 21 – 0 Rebel lead in the first quarter.

St. Martin’s got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when Matthew Mannino connected with Ross Miller for a 7-yard touchdown pass for their only score of the game.

Riverside scored two more touchdowns on Larvadain touchdown runs of 60 and 61-yards on the second quarter to extend the lead 34-7. Luke Hymel added another score when he threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Larvadain for the 41 – 7 halftime lead.

The Rebels kept their foot on the gas in the second half when Larvadain hit Andre Murphy on a 33-yard touchdown strike, and Nick Washington scored on a touchdown run for the 55-7 final score.

Gage Larvadain continued to show that he is a playmaker with 230 yards rushing on only four carries. He also passed for two touchdowns and had a touchdown reception. Larvadain accounted for seven touchdowns in the game as the Rebels picked up a district victory.

Riverside will travel to Edgard next Friday for a District 9-1A showdown with West St. John.
