Newman pulls away from Riverside 48 – 21

NEW ORLEANS – Riverside Academy traveled to Lupin Field in New Orleans to take on the Isidore Newman Greenies on Friday. The Rebels needed to be ready to stop Newman quarterback Arch Manning and running back Joseph Pleasant who lead the Greenie’s offensive attack. After six games, Manning has thrown for over 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Newman’s offense proved to be too much as the Rebels lost 48 – 21.

Riverside scored first when Andre Murphy recovered a Newman fumble and raced 65 yards for a touchdown to give the Rebels a 7 – 0 lead.

Newman fought back when Arch Manning connected with Reese Andrews on a 35-Yard touchdown pass. The score was 7 – 6 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Newman moved the ball and capped off a scoring drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Manning to Jonathan Schrantz to take the lead 13 – 7. Manning followed up with another 10-yard touchdown pass to extend the Newman lead to 20 – 7.

Riverside battled back with 1-yard touchdown run by Gage Larvadain. Newman led at halftime 20 – 14.

In the third quarter, Riverside was backed up on their 1-yard line when a fumble was recovered by Newman for a touchdown. Newman extended the lead to 27 – 14.

The Rebels added a score on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Larvadain to Andre Murphy, but Riverside still trailed 27-21 in the third quarter.

Newman scored quickly when Manning connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jarmone Sutherland. The Greenies held a 34-21 lead over Riverside at the end of the third quarter. Newman added a couple of scores in the fourth quarter as the Greenies pulled away for the 48 – 21 victory.

Riverside will return to Reserve next Friday for a home game against St. Martin’s Episcopal.
