LAPLACE – LaPlace barber Damon Davis has announced his candidacy for the St. John the Baptist Parish Council’s District 5 seat in the Oct. 12 general election.

The District 5 seat represents the easternmost portion of LaPlace and also includes northern portions of the St. John Parish such as Peavine and Ruddock. Michael Wright currently represents the district. Wright, who has termed out for that seat, is running for Council At-Large.

Davis is a LaPlace native and has been a member of the small business community for more than 20 years. He said his campaign platform includes a “strong focus on community service matters such as recreation, infrastructure and a continued push for hurricane levee protection for the parish.” He also wants to allocate for a “work-together St. John government.”

“I was born here, raised here, I live here and love here,” he said. “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the parish and continue to move District 5 forward.”

Davis noted he is an active member of the First Community Antioch Baptist Church in Lutcher. Additionally, he has served on the St. John Recreation Board since 2011 and is also a former Rotary Club of LaPlace board member.
