LAPLACE — Councilman Michael Wright has announced his candidacy for the St. John Parish Council-at-Large Division B seat in the Oct. 12 election.

Wright, a senior regional sales manager in the healthcare industry, was initially elected to the Parish Council District 5 seat in 2011 and again in 2015.

Michael has a long history of community service and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana.

Wright said he has the experience St. John needs to continue critical infrastructure improvements including water and drainage system upgrades. “With our Hurricane Protection Levee Construction in progress, it is important to have an aggressive leader representing our community.”

Wright is also dedicated to strengthening the parish’s recreational programs.

“We need to strengthen relationships with our school system, Sheriff’s Office, and District Attorney’s Office so that we can assist in growing our youth into productive citizens,” Wright said.

“It starts with kids having more opportunities to participate in safe and fun recreational activities.

“The next four years will be extremely important to the future of our parish. Let’s continue to build a solid foundation for St. John Parish together.”

Michael Wright is a lifelong resident of St. John and lives in LaPlace with his wife Erica and their dog Blair.

He is a graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School and Southeastern Louisiana University.

The fall election is Oct. 12, and qualifying begins Aug. 6.
