LAPLACE — The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office encourages all women to take the Rape Aggression Defense Class, noting the skills can be especially valuable to young women returning to high school or college.

The Sheriff’s Office will host the class beginning at 8 a.m. July 25. Females of any age are invited to attend the classes to learn several self-defense techniques to help protect themselves from sexual assault.

Several topics will be taught, including proper striking technique, using natural weapons, remaining calm in a tense situation and escaping when pinned on the ground or being choked.

The location of the class is kept confidential for safety purposes, and participation is completely voluntary.
