LAPLACE – Waitr, the local on-demand restaurant delivery service, recently announced plans to stadelivering alcohol directly to its customers’ doors in Louisiana.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed legislation allowing the company to make beer and wine deliveries, according to Waitr officials. However, availability of the service is pending final permitting by the state.

Waitr, which has serviced St. John the Baptist Parish since October 2018, allows customers to order from favorite local restaurants and have food delivered for a flat fee of $5.

The service started locally with delivery options from Petra Restaurant, ZoraChristina Catering and Café, Frenier Landing Restaurant & Oyster Bar, Akari Hibachi & Sushi and Rotolo’s Pizzeria through an online platform at waitrapp.com.

Chris Meaux, CEO, made the official announcement on Waitr’s planned expansion of services to include alcohol Monday morning.

“We are pleased Governor Edwards has signed legislation permitting alcohol delivery to homes,” Meaux said. “Waitr looks forward to helping our restaurants grow their businesses even further. We fought strenuously for this legislation from the very beginning, as our top priority is seeing our restaurant partners flourish and alcohol delivery will help increase sales for our partners.”

Since 2015, Waitr has partnered with more than 3,500 restaurants in Louisiana to service communities surrounding Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Shreveport, New Orleans, Alexandria, Monroe, Hammond, Houma and Thibodaux.

“Waitr is in a unique position to serve our customers and restaurants, as this new legislation only allows deliveries from drivers who are employees of companies, as are Waitr drivers, to complete such deliveries,” Meaux said.

Waitr, along with its subsidiary Bite Squad, connects local restaurants to hungry diners in underserved markets. As of March 31, 2019, Waitr and Bite Squad serviced approximately 24,000 restaurants and 700 cities in 29 states throughout the United States.
