Update: Armed robbery suspect in critical condition

LAPLACE — Darnell Lee, 43, of Garyville, is in critical condition at an area hospital after taking a gunshot to the neck during this morning’s armed robbery of a LaPlace convenience store, according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Lee entered the Birdie’s Food and Fuel in the 400 block of Belle Terre Boulevard at approximately 8:50 a.m. and robbed the store at gunpoint, police said.
One of the store employees, who was also armed, shot the suspect in the neck, according to police.
The suspect was taken to an area hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
No other injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
