SULPHUR — Despite a solid effort, Riverside Academy’s softball team couldn’t top No. 1 seed Notre Dame’s dominant performance during last week’s softball semifinals in Sulphur.
After defeating Riverside Academy 15-0, Notre Dame went on to claim the state championship over Holy Savior Menard Saturday, marking the end of a no-loss season.
Going into the game, Lady Rebels coach Tamra Regalo knew her girls would have to “play perfect.”
“We definitely came out more prepared than we were the first time we played them (in March),” Regalo said. “We had runners on second and third the first and second innings, just weren’t able to get them around.”
Lady Rebels eighth graders Alainah Felton, Emily Vicknair and Ava Fernandez all gained experience on the pitching mound amid fierce competition.
Felton and sophomore Chloe Simon hit doubles, and sophomore Cara Campbell made an impressive dive to get one of Notre Dame’s girls out.
“I was proud of their fight,” Regalo said. “They never gave up. They never held their head down.”
The Lady Rebels finished the season 18-9.
